THERE ARE SO MANY DANCE STUDIOS IN CEDAR CITY. WHY DANCE MAGIC?

Not only do we have some of the best-trained staff and instructors, we also have the kindest, sweetest, brightest dancers, and the most supportive dance parents. We are passionate about teaching dance and we do it in a positive, friendly, professional, encouraging environment. Our instructors continually attend dance training and conventions to stay on top of their game. We offer AFFORDABLE prices! We offer a variety of dance classes at our studio and we strongly feel that we have something for everyone! Come give us a try today. Find out what our Dance Magic Family is all about!
WHY DO YOU HAVE TWO NAMES (DANCE MAGIC & THE BALLET SCHOOL)? ARE YOU TWO DIFFERENT STUDIOS?
-We are now one studio! Dance Magic opened in 1992 and has been open for 27 years. In 1996, The Ballet School was started with a focus to teach classical ballet. In 2009, Dance Magic and The Ballet School joined forces. We are two sister schools working together as one. Both are owned and directed by Jenny Rowley. We still keep both names because it is important for everyone to know that The Ballet School still functions strongly within Dance Magic. We are unique in that we have a very strong ballet program within our studio. Every year, we produce (and our dancers perform) an original full-production Ballet. As a unified school, our dancers benefit from a broader base of class offerings where they can study various dance disciplines to whatever extent they desire.
DO YOU OFFER ANY DISCOUNTS ON TUITION?
-ABSOLUTELY! If you sign up for Automatic Withdrawal, you will receive $5 off your tuition each month! We also have an amazing refer-a-friend program. You and your referred friend can both receive $5 off your tuition each month for an entire dance season! View refer-a-friend program details HERE.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR TO CLASS? WHAT TYPE OF SHOES DOES MY CHILD NEED?
-Each class has different requirements. You can view your child’s shoe and dancewear requirements on our Policies & Procedures and Tuition & Fees page HERE. Just make sure your dancer wears clothes he/she can freely move in. NO school, street, or baggy clothes are permitted in class because they restrict the dancer and hide technical flaws that a teacher cannot see or correct when hidden. We will provide your dancer’s performance tights with your child’s costume.
CAN I WATCH MY CHILD DURING CLASS?
-YES! However, to ensure your child receives the highest quality training in the best learning environment possible, we only allow parents to watch dance classes through our viewing windows in the lobby. You can still see and hear everything that goes on in your child’s classroom, but our amazing viewing windows allow you to watch your dancer without disrupting or distracting from the learning environment. Win-win!
WHAT TYPE OF BALLET DO YOU TEACH?
-Our focus is on classical ballet. All of our ballet instructors are highly trained in classical ballet. It is their passion!
IF I ENROLL IN DANCE, AM I COMMITTED FOR NINE MONTHS?
-Generally, our regular dance season goes from August to May. However, you are welcome to drop out of class at anytime. Our cancellation policy states that you are required to notify us in writing (email is fine) by the 15th of the month in order to avoid being charged for the subsequent month. NOTE: By joining a Competition Team, you are committing to be on the team through May.
I MISSED YOUR REGULAR REGISTRATION AND YOUR CLASSES ARE ALREADY GOING. CAN I STILL SIGN UP?
-Yes! Generally, we can still enroll students up until January 31st (unless there is an availability problem with the costume or if a class is full). However, costumes do take several months to arrive, so that is something to take into consideration. If we can still get the costume in, and there is room in the class, we can certainly get you enrolled. Email us (nicole@mydancemagic.com) or text/call Nicole Mikkelson 435-233-4072 today to check on class & costume availability.
HOW MANY PERFORMANCES DO YOU DO?
-We hold a Winter Recital and a Spring Revue. We also perform an original Full-Production Ballet every season (all Stars classes, Majestic classes, and ballet classes perform in this). There are usually two other invitational community performances throughout the year. Competition classes also attend two or three competitions.
WHAT STYLES OF DANCE DO YOU TEACH?
-We teach jazz, ballet, tap, tumbling, technique, modern, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, and musical theatre.
WHAT AGES DO YOU TEACH?
-We teach ages 3 to Adult. For younger dancers, we teach a fun Mommy & Me class for dancers ages 18 months to three years old.

CAN MY CHILD TAKE A CLASS AND NOT HAVE TO PURCHASE A COSTUME AND PERFORM?
-The general answer is NO. While we do offer some non-performing classes (like tumbling and technique), dance is a performing sport and the performing aspect of dance is vital to training a good dancer. Along with basic technique and dance instruction, routines and performance pieces are worked on during class time. Therefore, it is in your dancer’s best interest and you will be getting the most for your money for your dancer to participate in performances. Besides, you are paying for your dancer to learn how to dance so she/he can really learn how to dance, right? Performing is an important part of that. If you prefer to have your child not perform, then you will need to enroll in tumbling or technique only, as we do not make exceptions on any other classes.
DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO COMPETE?
-We provide classes for whatever you are looking for! For those parents looking for a recreational level of dance, we have basic dance classes (our Stars classes). For those wanting more from their child’s dance education and experience, we provide competition teams. Our competition teams spend more time at the studio and receive a higher level of dance training and are able to learn greater technical skills. For those wishing for a more focused style of dance (like Ballet-only, hip hop, cheerleading, modern, tumbling, technique, etc), we offer stand-alone classes in many other styles, too!
WHAT WOULD MY CHILD GAIN FROM BEING ON A COMPETITION TEAM?
-First of all, we would like to dispel the myth about dance competitions being cut-throat: those are NOT the type of competitions we attend! We attend competitions for the positive energy and motivation that the girls receive from them. Working toward a goal is a great way to really push our dancers! We enjoy attending one or two local competitions, but we especially enjoy attending competitions out of the area because then our dancers have the opportunity to see dancers and routines from other areas. It is inspiring to watch dance take the form of art as we are challenged to rise to higher levels as we dance with other amazing dancers in a competitive atmosphere. We always encourage our dancers to work their hardest, give their all, and do the best they can do. Being on a competition team also teaches a young dancer about commitment, responsibility, and follow-through. These girls learn the importance of being on a team and how their hard work can help lift their team to higher levels. Our competition dancers attend more hours of dance than our recreational dancers and they are therefore able to advance much more as dancers. So much about dance is learned from muscle memory and repetition. Dancers who attend dance only one hour a week will find it hard for their bodies to learn the necessary skills, techniques, and flexibility that dancers need to be successful. For anyone really wanting to get the most out of their money and training in dance, we strongly recommend doing a competition team.
